Dazzling Cafe - Now in Singapore
Good news for fans of the famed Dazzling Cafe concept and their Shibuya-style honey toast—it's finally in Singapore!
Located at the new Capitol Piazza mall (opposite Raffles City), Dazzling Cafe Singapore is also the first Southeast Asian outpost of this Taiwanese concept incepted in 2010. Despite only being in the soft launch phase—their official launch slated for 6 June 2015—we hear there's been a steady queue of diners since they began operations on 18 April.
Here's our review of their highly Instagram- and drool-worthy offerings:
Must-tries from their dessert selection include the Matcha Red Bean Honey Toast ($19.90)—perfect, crisp cubes of toast sit within their '4th generation' swivel toast tower, topped with a generous scoop of Matcha ice cream, then showered with luscious condense milk and more Matcha sauce—and the fluffy Honey Cheddar Cheese Danish Toast ($17.90).
What I really like about the latter is how it is buttery and slightly flaky on the outside, which really balances out the creamy custard and cheddar topping for an oh-so sinful yet satisfying, sweet-savoury combination.
Every Dazzling Cafe has their own speciality dishes. Exclusive to this mint-themed Singapore outlet are the Spicy Seafood Tomyam Tomato Spaghetti ($22.90) with a nice kick, and the Mango & Coconut Gelato Honey Toast ($18.90).
We had the '3rd generation' variation—crunchy toast cubes huddled inside equally crunchy tall walls of toast—crowned with house-made coconut gelato, tangy mango sauce and a dusting of pistachio shavings.
The iconic Dazzling Mochi QQ Waffle ($14.90, dollops of soft, gooey mochi sandwiched between each crisp waffle petal) is also available here, finished with either strawberries or Valrhona chocolate and scoop of Haagen Dazs ice cream.
Savouries-wise, their current compact menu of risottos, pastas and the like could do with more fine-tuning—the orange notes of the Duck breast pasta slightly too sweet and synthetic for my liking, Mentaiko pasta would probably benefit from a flatter, thicker pasta to slurp up the sauce, and the Mushroom & Black Truffle sauce lacked body.
That being said, the kitchen was still extremely new when we visited and we are looking forward to trying their expanded and new menu come official launch.
