InterContinental Hotels Group - 2013 Festive Offerings
You never say no to an InterContinental Hotels Group invite without good reason. This year, we were gobsmacked with the tantalizing spread of festive goodies from Crowne Plaza Changi Airport, Holiday Inn Singapore Atrium, Holiday Inn Singapore Orchard City Centre and, last but definitely not least, Intercontinental Singapore.
To say the focus was on turkey is an understatement; Crowne Plaza's Baked Turkey ($168/5kg) seasoned with aromatic spices and Japanese peppercorn was quite good; Holiday Inn Atrium served up an interesting Gingerbread Spice Christmas Turkey; Holiday Inn Singapore Orchard City Centre presented a wonderfully smokey Tandoori Turkey ($88); but the highlight of the night was from InterContinental.
Marinated in a piquant mix of mouth-watering spices, including lemongrass, chilli, tamarind, kaffir lime leaves, for 24 hours before being braised then roasted to succulent perfection, Chef Eric Neo's Nyonya Assam Chilli Turkey ($140/5kg) is then served with more of that savoury sauce and best enjoyed with a side of coconut rice.
Paying tribute to the hotel's Peranakan roots, their popular Gula Melaka Chendol log cake ($68/1kg)—sweet red beans nestled in luscious coconut cream and gula melaka sponge—makes a return this year and is worth a mention.
