Review: Red House Seafood's Third Outlet @ 68 Prinsep Street

In a perfect juxtaposition of old world charm in contemporary setting, the 37-year old much-loved seafood brand Red House Seafood brings us its third and smallest outlet—though a spacious 300-seater, double-storey conservation shophouse hardly qualifies as ‘small’—at Prinsep Street, just off the heart of the city. Red House Seafood 68 Prinsep Street - Trio Combination of Chef's Signature Squid

Established in 1976, Red House Seafood has not only endured the test of time with its tried and tested recipes using only choice ingredients sourced globally, and also introduced pre-orders and home delivery systems, and a lighter, alternative dim sum menu (only available at their Robertson Quay and Prinsep outlets) to stay relevant in today’s fast-changing food scene.

Red House Seafood 68 Prinsep Street - Tiger Prawns with Signature Creamy Custard Sauce

Their signature Creamy custard sauce proves you don’t have to live decadently to have a good meal. Both lobster (seasonal price) and tiger prawns ($7 per 100grams) do well in the savoury, milky sauce, accented by crunchy shreds of pickled radish and carrots, that will have you licking the plate clean.

Red House Seafood 68 Prinsep Street - Spicy Seafood Combination

Drenched in an addictively lemak Thai-inspired curry, the Spicy seafood combination ($28/small, $42/medium, $56/large) of scallops, prawn and squid is another of their best-selling items that truly deserves repeat visits for. Richly flavoured with some underlying heat, the gravy will have you ordering extra sides of their crisp outside, fluffy inside Fried mantou ($0.90 each) to scoop up.

Red House Seafood 68 Prinsep Street - Spicy Black Pepper Crab

Just for crabs alone, diners can choose from three types of crabs—Sri Lankan mud crab, Scottish brown crab and Alaskan king crab (seasonal prices)—and eight different cooking styles to enjoy from. Besides the classic Golden salted egg yolk and iconic Crab in Red House Chilli Stew, the savoury ‘Kuei Fei’ in claypot and satisfyingly spicy Black pepper crab makes guaranteed highlights for any communal feast.

Other dishes also worthy of mention include the Trio Chef’s signature squid ($30/58), Sambal Kang Kong (water spinach, $12/18/24) with generous amounts of hei bi (dried shrimp), and the Assorted seafood Hor Fun ($12/18/24) with just enough wok hei.
