Uber Launches UberEATS Singapore Today
After weeks of chatter and anticipation, Uber has finally launched UberEATS, their own food delivery service, in Singapore today, 25 May 2016.
Singapore is also the first Asian market UberEATS is made available to. The service is already available in 14 other cities such as New York, Paris and Melbourne.
The standalone UberEATS app is available for download on both the App store and Google Play store, and you can expect about 100 participating restaurants across all price points on the platform—as well as some UberEATS-exclusive names such as Burnt Ends and Pluck.
Delivery areas are currently limited, to only the Central Business District, Tanjong Pagar, Orchard and River Valley.
Utilising the same map-routing algorithms Uber uses to connect drivers and passengers as quickly as possible, UberEATS Singapore promises delivery within 35 minutes.
The flat S$3 delivery charge is also currently waived for an indefinite period to start.
Setting up your UberEATS account is extremely straightforward, especially if you already have an existing Uber account—it ports over your account and payment information.
If you don’t have an account, use my code (‘uberjazpster') to sign up for S$10 Uber credit - www.uber.com/invite/uberjazpster.
Placing your UberEATS order is simple and almost effortless—unless, like me, you have troubles deciding what/where to eat.
Available restaurants are listed according to estimated delivery time taken to your location.
Each establishment usually offers at least food and beverages.
Most of the listed items come with thumbnails so it is easy to choose.
For first-time UberEATS users, enter promo code ‘UBEREATSSG’ or 'FEEDSG' to enjoy S$15 off your first order. *Available for new users only, expires 30 June 2016.
After you’ve placed your order, like Uber, you can view the progress of your order, as well as how far along your driver is.
As with Uber, you only pay upon completion of your UberEATS transaction—meaning after you receive your food.
I had Burnt Ends' signature Sanger (a sandwich-burger) and butterhead lettuce salad )that was delivered in about 24mins—within the promised timeframe.
The burger arrived warm and well, and was delicious; salad in a well-sealed box. The only con is that it did not come with any disposable cutlery, though a very minor issue considering overall quality of food and convenience of service.
The standalone UberEATS app is available for download on both the App store and Google Play store. Delivery is available from 11am to 10pm daily, and currently limited to the Central Business District, Tanjong Pagar, Orchard and River Valley areas.
