SEAR Steakhouse - Quality Meats, Killer View

American, Reviews, WesternComment

I've passed by Singapore Land Tower countless times, but never would I imagine the amazing views one could enjoy from this seemingly cold, corporate building. Sear Steakhouse - Singapore Land Tower 50RP - Interior

Situated on level 45, modern American steakhouse SEAR is the latest addition to 50RP, a multi-concept dining and nightlife destination housed in a glass penthouse—the others being Empire lounge, Angie’s Oyster & Champagne Bar and Teikoku, a sake and tapas concept launching in 2015.

SEAR’s interior is sleek—seductively finished with dark wood and leather—and strategically lit for an air of romance and mystery, but what truly impressed is its prime 360-degrees view of the CBD, Marina Bay area and more.

Sear Steakhouse - Singapore Land Tower 50RP - Angie’s Ocean Platter

The hearty menu by Executive Chef Claudio Sandro (also of Spathe Public House and Lower East Side Taqueria) is kept straightforward, focusing on lesser known quality cuts of meat masterfully executed till smokey, succulent perfection in specially imported PIRA charcoal ovens, as well as some scrumptious seafood specialties.

Sear Steakhouse - Singapore Land Tower 50RP - Bone-in Rib Sher Wagyu Black Label Full Blood

While the jaw-droppingly luxe $6,000 Surf & Turf (2kg hunk of prized Certified Kobe Grade A4 Rib Eye served with 300g Sturia Vintage Caviar) may be decidedly too indulgent, wallet-conscious meat aficionados can still share a gorgeously marbled 1.3kg Bone-in Rib Sher Wagyu Black Label Full Blood MS 6-7 ($340, feeds 4-6).

Or go for the Sear Tasting of Rib Eye ($149)—a protein-packed showcase of Certified Kobe beef, 21-Day aged Wakanui hormone-Free NZ Hereford and 450-day grain fed Australian Jacks Creek Wagyu.

Sear Steakhouse - Singapore Land Tower 50RP - Lobster Cobb Salad

Other highlights, besides their extremely well-priced American wines, include the Lobster Cobb Salad ($32) enjoyed with chunks of flavoursome blue cheese and bacon strips and the Homemade Lemon Rosti ($15)—delightfully crisp rosti finished with invigorating lemon hints.

Sear Steakhouse - Singapore Land Tower 50RP - Tasting Dessert Plate

Also great for sharing is the Tasting Dessert Plate ($48)—chef's selection of various desserts. My personal pick for the evening was the dense Chocolate Mud Cake ($15 a la carte), made with soft chocolate brownie and marshmallows, served with homemade chestnut ice cream.

Sear Steakhouse - Singapore Land Tower 50RP - Split Bone Marrow

The only thing that didn't quite work for me was the Split Bone Marrow ($28, 2 halves with rye bread). I like my bone marrow dishes full-on unctuous and bold, but the tangy persilladeso dressing cut away most of the oiliness so this dish was a miss—albeit the only miss throughout the entire evening.
