StraitsKitchen, Grand Hyatt Singapore - Egyptian for Ramadan 2013
Ramadan, the month of fasting for Muslims, starts this Wednesday, and StraitsKitchen at Grand Hyatt Singapore brings to the table some fine Iftar offerings. From 8 July to 8 August 2013, diners can look forward to a variety of authentic Egyptian dishes amongst the spread of scrumptious local favourites from StraitsKitchen’s halal-certified theatre kitchens.
Besides the quintessential hummus and dips that pair fantastically with the light breads, I recommend heading straight to the Egyptian section presented by guest chefs from Hyatt Regency Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt.
Highlights include the mouth-wateringly unctuous and tender Oriental chicken, the delicate Fish tagine that is cooked in a smooth tomato puree sauce, and the slightly dry Rice one & one—cooked rice re-fried with cumin and a gushing of spices—which lends texture to the seemingly wetter Egyptian entrees while also soaking up the sauces.
Admittedly too sweet, even for me, the Qatayef—a sweet crepe filled with nuts, specially reserved for the Ramadan month—and the national dish of Egypt, Umm Ali—raisin cake soaked in sweet milk—still deserves a try. Then wash it down with some Karkadeh, a supposedly secret recipe of hibiscus tea that is traditionally toasted during wedding celebrations in Egypt and Sudan, and also said to lower the blood pressure.
The Egyptian Ramadan affair at StraitsKitchen is available only for dinner, from 8 July to 8 August 2013, and is priced at $68 per adult and $38 per child (aged 7 – 12 years). For reservations, please call +65 67321234.
