The cruise line with the mouse isn’t the only ones making waves. Sailing stalwart Dream Cruises turned 10 this year and has launched a year-long campaign starring some serious K-power.

In May, Chef Tommie Lee—aka ‘French Papa’ from Netflix’s Culinary Class Wars Season 2—hosted a cooking demonstration on their flagship Genting Dream cruise to Malacca, as well as to launch a specially curated five-course menu featuring some of his signatures.

This menu is priced at a very reasonable S$90nett per person, or S$132nett with wine pairing, and is available at the ship’s specialty Bistro Restaurant through 3 July 2026.

In July, Physical: 100 Seasons 2 winner Amotti, will be onboard to host exclusive fitness programmes on the Genting Dream, and rising K-pop girl group KIIRAS will hold meet-and-greet sessions and performances onboard in October. Each two-night celebrity-led sailing aboard Genting Dream costs from $199.50 a person.

As part of the celebrations, Dream Cruises has launched exclusive 10th Anniversary promotions, such as ‘Buy One Get One Free’ deal on all Genting Dream sailings, and the third and fourth guests sail at special rates. Visit www.StarDreamCruises.com for details.

I was extremely fortunate to have experienced two cruises over the span of two weeks—a Disney Adventure cruise to nowhere, and a two-night Genting Dream sailing to Malacca—so I can share some insights and tips.

There is a notable difference in terms of costs between the two, but Genting Dream delivers plenty for its price point in a no frills package. Waterslides. 35-metres ocean zipline. Bowling alley. Nightly theatre shows. Zouk Beach Club parties. And also the world’s first OIC/SMIIC Halal-friendly cruise. Genting Dream is great for the first-time cruisers, families, Muslim travellers, and the passionate players.

If you’re looking to splurge, their Palace accommodations offer a private and premium experience. Priority check-in, VIP lounge access and expedited boarding to suite rooms with private balconies, complimentary Wi-Fi and 24-hour butler concierge service. Balcony guests are a tier down, but also enjoy some priority, which is especially helpful if you’re hoping to disembark earlier to grab breakfast in Malacca.

Getting to Malacca is super easy. Basically a 10-15mins ferry/tender boat ride to the port and from there, about an easy 7mins walk over to Jonker Street. No immigration queues or wait. While you’re there, I highly suggest checking out The Daily Fix Cafe and Kopi Harian (opened by the same folks) for bites. And for a bit of batik/kebaya shopping, visit A&L Collection beside the Kampung Kling Mosque for friendly service and reasonable prices.

For those new to Dream Cruises, I highly recommend referring to the daily onboard itinerary ‘The Daily’ (accessible with the ship’s onboard WIFI). Turns out we could have dined at Blue Lagoon, typically a specialty/chargeable restaurant, for free as my first dinner onboard.

If you’re looking for variety, The Lido buffet on Deck 16 is where you should make a beeline to. They have a huge spread spanning International, Jain, Vegetarian, and Halal, as well as a variety of grilled seafood and meats on the first night of my sailing.

Would I sail again on the Genting Dream? For sure. The cruise experience is more than decent and if you think about it, you get both a day trip to another city and the indulgence of a somewhat all-inclusive cruise experience.

This was an invited cruise experience, though all views expressed are my own.
