Miam Miam - French-Japanese Cafe Kitchen

Flooding timelines and feeds since their first Singapore outlet at Bugis Junction (2nd outlet now open at Westgate) opened, casual cafe Miam Miam combines French techniques with Japanese flavours and ideologies of kaizen and kanban in its food and preparation practices—down to the 7.5mins their 110gram portions of pasta is cooked for—for perfectly engineered, affordable and Instagram-ready fare.

Miam Miam - Miam Miam Spaghetti

Served with frankfurters, tomatoes, baby spinach, eggplant, bacon and a soft boiled egg, the Miam Miam Spaghetti ($15.80) is good enough for two. While the flavours of French butter and secret broth the pasta were tossed in were subdued in the hotchpotch of ingredients, it was executed to a wonderful al dente and I enjoyed the slight fragrance from the roasted sesame.

Those who like their Japanese curries can go for the Riz Au Curry ($15.50)—moist, homely baked rice with pork frankfurters, broccoli, and egg topped with a rich, flavoursome Japanese curry and gooey cheese—or the Souffle Au Curry ($16.80). The curry rice at the bottom might get dry if you leave it sitting for too long, but a simple mixing of the airy souffle cloud into the rice will do the trick.

Miam Miam - French Toast

Miam Miam's crowd-pleasing desserts—split into 3 main categories of pancakes, souffles and parfaits—are the definite highlight of the menu. The fluffy, eggy squares of French Toast ($15.80) with slightly crisp sides were tasty and went well with side of clotted cream, and chocolate-lover will enjoy the intense Chocolate Molleaux ($9.80) with a side of ice cream.

Personally, I tended toward their various matcha offerings—like the Matcha Pancake $13.8 with homemade red bean cream and coffee and matcha jelly, or the Iced Matcha Latte ($6.80, top up $2 to add a matcha softee). Using imported Grade 1 matcha, the green tea flavour is intense, smooth and with a hint of that lovely bitterness.

Overall, the food isn't bad though slightly one-dimensional, but with their highest-priced item at $20.80, Miam Miam is a good option for a quick pitstop—when there isn't a queue.
